Active ingredient

Tricyclic antidepressant, antipruritic and pain modifier of neurological origin.

Form

10 mg and 25 mg pills

Indications

In dogs:

Separation anxiety and general anxiety.

In cats:

Excessive grooming, territorial marking, anxiety, complementary treatment for diseases of the lower urinary tract.

In cats and dogs:

Chronic neurological pain, itching.

Contraindications

Epilepsy, allergies associated with tricyclic antidepressants, concomitant use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

Side effects

Anorexia, vomiting, drooling, diarrhea, sedation / lethargy / depression, hyperexcitability, neutropenia (reduction in neutrophils in the blood), thrombocytopenia (reduction in the number of platelets in the blood), ataxia. 

May cause heart arrhythmias.

Recommended monitoring

Depending on clinical effectiveness, cardiac and hematological evaluation before the start of the medication, biochemistry (control of liver enzymes) before the start of the medication and one year later.

Drug interactions

Anticholinergic agents, cimetidine, cisapride , cyproheptadine , diazepam, itraconazole , ketoconazole , monoamine oxidase inhibitors, quinidine, SSRIs , sympathomimetic agents, thyroid agents and tramadol.

Storage

Keep at room temperature.

Warning

Use with caution in hyperthyroidism, urine retention, liver problems, KCS (dry keratoconjunctivitis), glaucoma, diabetes, adrenal tumors and cardiac arrhythmias.
